The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
