Seamer Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer increased England's injury problems after leaving the ground on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

The pace bowler pulled up with his hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The touring camp stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has already lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen to reach double figures.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, at the end of that over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test having missed the Adelaide game.
