Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
