Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the piece was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the music world. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a team of music creators. The song blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These resources will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a figure said. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Naturally, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is above all making this cause better known and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
