Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:

  • Each team has just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
